Renesas Electronics' ultra-low power RA0 series adds capacitive touch function MCU

On September 17, 2025, Beijing, China - Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solutions provider, announced today the launch of its RA0L1 microcontroller (MCU) product line based on the Arm Cortex-M23 processor. This series has ultra-low power consumption characteristics, providing industry-leading capacitive touch solutions for battery powered devices and other consumer electronics, home appliances, white goods, and industrial system control fields, helping customers achieve fast and economical deployment.

The RA0 MCU series launched by Renesas in 2024 has won the favor of many customers due to its economic and low-power advantages. The RA0L1 series continues these advantages by adding capacitive touch functionality, allowing designers to create responsive, aesthetically pleasing, and low-power user interfaces at an extremely low cost.


 


The RA0L1 series MCU has excellent power consumption performance in the industry: the current is as low as 2.9mA in working mode and only 0.92mA in sleep mode. In addition, the series also integrates a high-speed on-chip oscillator (HOCO), which has the fastest wake-up speed among similar products. The fast wake-up function enables the RA0L1 MCU to maintain standby mode for a longer period of time, with power consumption reduced to a negligible 0.25 μ A, resulting in a 90% decrease in current consumption compared to other solutions.




The RA0L1 series feature set is optimized for cost sensitive applications. Its working voltage range is wide from 1.6V to 5.5V, and customers do not need to configure additional level converters/regulators in 5V systems. This series of MCUs also integrates multiple communication interfaces, analog functions, security functions, and security mechanisms, which helps to reduce customer BOM costs. The product offers a variety of packaging options, including 4mm x 4mm 24 pin QFN micro packages.


 


In addition, the high-precision (± 1.0%) HOCO equipped on the new MCU can improve the baud rate accuracy, eliminating the need for designers to use independent oscillators. Unlike other HOCOs in the industry, this oscillator can maintain this accuracy in environments ranging from -40 ° C to 125 ° C. The wide temperature characteristic allows customers to simplify thermal design without the need for time-consuming and costly "fine-tuning" after reflow soldering.

FSP provides all the necessary infrastructure software, including multiple RTOS, BSP, peripheral drivers, middleware, connectivity, network, and security stacks, as well as reference software for building complex AI, motor control, and cloud solutions, thereby accelerating application development speed. It allows customers to integrate their existing code and selected RTOS with FSP, bringing full flexibility to application development. With FSP, customers can simplify the process of mutual migration with other RA series products.
